We are open for pitches
I'm looking to commission LGBTQ+ writers covering queer culture; from interviews to features & reviews to hot new takes.
I’ve always been really good at carving out opportunities for myself. I sometimes read back on old emails that I sent CEO’s, directors and editors asking for gigs - full-time, part-time, freelance - and laugh.
The audacity of me landing in these peoples inbox, not just once, but multiple times demanding a gig with a poorly constructed email and a confidence to boot. The funniest thing though, is that ten years on the only change is that my emails have gotten better.
I’m still doing it. I don’t think I’ll ever not do it, to be honest, but the replies are quicker, the conversations sharper and the money, in most instances, greater. Yes, *shock* you should earn money. Work is no hobby.
When I started Material Queer, not only was it to celebrate queer culture, it was to give back to our community, through paid opportunities because I know first hand, how important these are.
In a media landscape that has been decimated by click bait headlines, fake news, and slander to cover the cracks in the foundations of an industry on its knees ultimately leading to redundancies, I wanted to create space for slow scrolling reads that made you think and feel that little bit different.
I am looking to commission LGBTQ+ writers covering queer culture, anything from interviews to features and reviews to hot new takes for Material Queer.
I am looking for evergreen, niche and current, but if it is the latter make sure it has a strong hook. If your pitch is timely, please let me know in the subject line, so I can prioritise you.
The deadline for this round is the 29th February but I will be getting back to people throughout the month. If you want to chat before submitting your pitch, slide into my DM’s.

And incase you need reminding, this is a paid gig with articles starting from £150.
I can’t wait to read what you’ve got!
