Hello, I’m Damian Kerlin welcome to Material Queer

Material Queer by Damian Kerlin is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

…and you are?

I live in Cardiff. I’m a boyfriend of one, and Dadi of two. I love music and dancing, dinner parties, adventures, reading, lie-ins, festivals and city breaks. I adore fashion. The bolder, the better. I love a plan and dislike surprises. The way to my heart is strong coffee, doughnuts and great conversation. Life is better with a tan.

Why did you start this newsletter?

I want to celebrate queer culture and serve as a reminder of the transformative role it plays in telling our stories and shaping our identity.

Material Queer is an opportunity to experience, for a brief moment, a sense of freedom, belonging, safety and agency. Our culture has been a cornerstone of queer community building for generations, from music to art.

It is a newsletter which embodies conventions of gender and sexuality to highlight the performative aspects of identity and to oppose the tyranny of 'the normal'.

Join us in celebrating

Every now and again, you’ll receive an email for free.

But really, you’ll get the most out of this platform by signing up to be a paying member (for around £1.00 a week).

You’ll gain access to all my new writing, exclusive interviews, the full archive, guest writers, giveaways and more. You’ll also be supporting all the work I do and give away for free. It’s a really gorgeous community, with all the celebration of a night-out, but without the hangover.

Here’s a 10% off code, consider it a cue jump.
